         “Windows” though they are small opening parts of a house, they play an important role in enhancing the beauty appearances of the building.

        There are many different types of windows, each has its own advantages and disadvantages. The types of windows commonly used are as follows.

 

- Casement windows. Casement windows are one of the windows widely used nowadays. This type of window offers a less obstructed light, wind and view but it should not open out into traffic lanes.

- Sliding windows. Sliding windows are the ideal option for a limited space. They are easy to install and simple to close or open but they are not tightly close to each other so the wind or small insects can go through between the shutters.

 

- Awning windows. The shutters are top hung and swing out and up to form an awning. They can be partially or fully opened. They should be installed away from traffic lanes and high up over the head. They are a versatile option for modern home designs.

- Louvered windows. Louvered windows are provided for ventilation. They can be used with outer windows or partition windows inside the building. especially the kitchen or the storage room. The inclination of louvers can be adjusted to control the quantity of light and wind needed.

 

        Fixed windows. Fixed windows are fixed on the wall without any closing or opening operation, they are provided to transmit the light into the room. They are mostly used for a living room.

        Besides the types of windows mentioned, materials used for windows are the important factors to consider. Various types of materials used for windows are as follows.

- Wood. Wood is as durable and long-lasting as other materials if properly maintained. It has been used for hundreds of years. However, it can suffer from severe expansion and contraction due to temperature changes.

- Steel. Steel is a wood substitution material. It is durable, flame resistant and long-lasting. Its disadvantages are high price and can suffer fron rust in the long run.

 

      

- Aluminum. Akuminium is known for being rugged and long-lasting. It is also a wood substitution material. It won’t wear out in the sunlight; rain and it won’t rot or mold from the common wear problems that affect wood. The drawback of aluminum is it easily broken and has to handle and install with great care.

- UPVC or Vinyl. It is the most popular material used nowadays. Vinyl is light-weight, durable and long-lasting. It doesn’t suffer from expansion or contraction due to temperature changes. It is soundproof and can be moulded to any shapes and forms. Skilled workers are needed to handle and install.

          There are many different types of windows. Which one you choose depends on what kind of look you want for your home. Some prefer the abundance of natural light that comes from floor-to-floor while others enjoy even airflow that a casement window affords. The most important factors that should be taken into account are the required performance regarding air and water tightness, thermal insulation, sound insulation and security.
