Plastering Techniques to Avoid Cracks

Line

         Cracks on any wall of the home can greatly annoy the owner. Cracking is caused by many factors such as weather conditions, surface exposure to the sun and intermittent plastering.

         There are some simple plastering techniques to avoid cracks on the wall. Firstly, check for any cracks on the bricks. Those cracks need to be fixed before plastering. Secondly, put concrete markers on the surface and beads on every corner. The concrete markers will identify the level or thickness of concrete plastering and the beads will help make sharp, straight corners.

         After the surface is prepared, plastering cement is applied to the level of the concrete marker. When the cement plaster settles, PD Mortar Plus is applied and the plastering procedure is complete. A skim coat and painting will follow.

        Plastering is not a complicated task and skilled workers play an important role in acquiring a smooth and appealing plastered surface.

To avoid cracking issues on the home’s walls, follow these simple techniques:

1. Check for any defects on the surface. If found, fix before plastering;

2. Apply beads to every corner and a concrete marker to the surface to identify the level of concrete plaster required;

3. Clean and cure the surface with water;

4. Apply concrete plaster to the level marked;

5. After the concrete plaster has settled and dried, apply PD Mortar Plus;

6. Apply a skim coat to ensure a smooth surface before painting.
