In addition to the design of any home, paint plays an essential role in enhancing the appearance. The various paint tones selected also reflect the home owner’s taste and style.

There are two main types of paints; for the interior and for the exterior. The main differences between interior and exterior paints are the resins and the additives. The resins used for exterior paints are soft, providing characteristics that help fight against fading, temperature changes and moisture. Exterior paint must also be tougher to resist peeling, chipping and fading due to extreme weather conditions. The binding resins for interior paint are rigid to allow the paint to be easily cleaned and are stain resistant. To enhance scrub resistance, vinyl acrylic resins are also used in interior paint. Interior paint’s ingredients contain fewer harsh chemicals and additives making it much safer for indoor use.

There are also a theory that interior and exterior paints are compatible but it is not recommended. Exterior paint can be used indoors but it may several weeks to fully cure. The finish is also not desirable for interior surfaces. Additionally, exterior paint is more expensive. Applying interior paint to the outside of your home, you’ll likely to find it cracking, chipping and fading in a very short time.

There are various types of paints and all fall into two categories—water-based or oil-based. Water-based paint, also referred to as acrylic paint, is usually the common choice for use in both interior and exterior and is good for cement or concrete surfaces. Oil-based paint is widely used on exterior surfaces because it is more durable and affordable and is good for metal or wooden surfaces. Colored cement, a mixture of paint and concrete, is sometimes used because of its colour durability, with no peeling or chipping issues and can be used on both interior and exterior surfaces.

Choosing colours and where they fit in your house is essential on how we live and the kind of life we try to cultivate. Colour has the power to relieve stress and provide peace and tranquility. For example, painting a bedroom red is not recommended as there are claims it can hinder sleep and disrupt the brain as you try to relax and fall asleep. Warm and cool tone colours like light blue, light yellow, creamy white are used in living rooms to provide calm.

Because colours enhance the appearance of a house, many facts need to be considered before choosing paint. Each colour tone can imply a specific meaning and has the ability to convey a mood or feeling.
