How to Choose a Roofing Material Suitable for a House Design

A roof is one of the important parts of a house that protects the sun and rain so a roofing material should be selected carefully to suit a design of the house. There are many types of roofing material for our choice nowadays and each has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Currently, roofing materials mostly used are as follow.

Concrete or cement tile. The tile is durable, not easily breakable, resists to weather conditions and the price is not too expensive. There are varieties of color for selection. The form is both corrugated or smooth. A concrete tile is good for Contemporary Style home or others dependes on individual like.

Ceramic tile. The tile has a glossy property and dust free surface so it looks luxury and nice. It is good for the weather in Thailand because of its low thermal conductivity property. However, the price is quite expensive.

Metal sheet or corrugated sheet. It is a thin steel sheet galvanized coated. It is light weight and can be installed easily. The roof is good for a Modern Style house or any kinds of modification –a kitchen, a garage. The disadvantage of metal sheet is it causes a loud noise when exposed to the rain.

Insulated Roof. Insulated roof consists of two steel sheets with foam put in between. The outstanding properties are sound proof and heat protection. It is good for a modern style house or a factory or an office. The problem of transportation is the disadvantage of this kind of roofing material.

Concrete roof or concrete slab. This kind of roof is made of reinforced concrete mixed with waterproof agent; the roof is good for a modern style house. The disadvantages are that it absorbs the heat into the building and there will be a leakage problem if it is not properly built.

There are many types of roofing material for our choice, each has different properties. To choose one, many factors—beauty’s sake, ultimate usage and suitability to the home designs should bring into consideration.
